Racing on Wabamun Lake

Racing is a great way to improve sailing skills while having fun and enjoying a little friendly competition and the camaraderie of your fellow Sailors. A good way to learn is to crew on someone else’s boat (write to Mike if you want to crew or need crew).

The racing schedule, race results, PHRF ratings and more are online at SBYC's Racing page (thanks, John!).

Weekend races are typically Conventional Races with all boats starting at the same time with times adjusted based on boats' PHRF rating. Typically two races are run per day.

Wednesday night races are Pursuit Racing with staggered starting times based on PHRF ratings. The race lasts one hour and whoever is in front at the end wins.

For more information, EYC members should contact Fleet Master Mike Morrison, fleetmaster@edmontonyachtclub.ca.

EYC collaborates with SBYC to run the races. Their Fleet Master is
John Semple, jsemple@tbwifi.ca, 780-809-2314.

The Racing Rules of Sailing are available from Sail Canada. We typically lay out our races using one of these two designs:
