Hello members with young sailors in the family,
We have been approached by the facilitator of the northern YMCA to participate in a youth exchange program for sailors. This is a government funded program that encourages organizations to facilitate exchanges between youth in the age range from 12 to 17. The size of the groups are between 10 to 30. The YMCA helps secure the funding for travel within Canada.
The Saskatchewan sailing association in Saskatoon has expressed an interest to host our group for a week in return for hosting their group for a week.
So in rough sketches, this would look like this:
If there is interest, I would like to hear from you. If we have a few members, I would try to combine groups of young sailors from around the lake to give us a group of 10 or more. My other aim is to get ASA to take on managing the program to make sure it is not just a one of event, but is available yearly. The Saskatoon rugby association has been doing this exchange for a few years now. Their young players have gone to BC, NS and Manitoba.
Contact me via email at [email protected] if you have children or grand children that fit in this age range and would be interested in this exchange. If you would like help plan the program outline and activity or would be interested in volunteering, I also would like to hear from you.
The YMCA is only involved in getting us the travel dollars to pay for busing or flying the group from one location to the other. The rest is up to us to structure with the other organization directly. I think this would be a great opportunity to give our young people an opportunity to learn and travel for a week in the summer and make new friends.

So in rough sketches, this would look like this:
- A group from Saskatoon area sailing clubs of 12 to 17 year old sailors would come to Seba and stay for a week. We would be responsible for planning activities, accommodations and meals. Their travel cost is covered by the program, other costs would have to be recovered from the participants or shared.
- A follow up exchange from our group would be facilitated by Saskatoon to host our group for a week, with them organizing the activities and accommodation at their end.
