Preparing the Whaler for use
- Get the Boston Whaler Key from the Offer of the Day cabinet and place it into the Whaler ignition. The brass key on the Yamaha key chain will fit all Whaler related locks. (The OOTD cabinet is in the room immediately to your right as you enter the north side of the clubhouse; if memory serves, the combination to the lock is written on the wall, to your left!)
- Check the gas level (tank is under the seat). If less than 3/4 full:
- fill from a fuel tank (Premium, NO MIX) or arrange to have the tank filled with premium fuel. Most Officers OTD fill one of red tanks with premium fuel from the local Shell.
- Ensure the paddle and bailer are in the Whaler, PFDs available.
- Lower the whaler into the water.
- Visually check the boat, lower the motor into the water, and start and warm up the motor. Never start the engine out of the water!
- Turn off the motor and raise the boat till it is no longer vulnerable to wave action (can beat the Whaler against the lift).
- Leave the gas shed unlocked.
- End of day: reverse the above steps.
