An overview of EYC
A primary goal of EYC is to promote the sport of sailing, boating and other related athletic sports and pastimes and to encourage social intercourse between the members of the company.
The Club has consistently focused on providing activities and facilities for those who wish to maintain or develop an interest and skills in sailing.
The Edmonton Yacht Club had its beginning in the spring of 1923 at Cooking Lake. In 1945 the Club moved to Wabamun Lake and has remained there ever since. We are working on loading a detailed early history of the club called The Wind in the Sails.

Some notes about structure:
- The Edmonton Yacht Club was incorporated under part 9 of Alberta's Companies Act, on May 31, 1962 as a nonprofit association. The club year is January 1 to December 31.
- Each voting Member must hold a share in the club. Each share has a value of $100.00 and can only be purchased from or sold to the Club.
- The Club must hold an annual general meeting to which all shareholders are invited. At this meeting, committee reports, and finances are presented and discussed and major issues are voted on.
- The members do all activities, from race management to clean up and repairs to the grounds, docks and buildings, primarily on a volunteer basis. All members are expected to volunteer some of their time and talents to club projects and/or regular activities, e.g. docks in, docks out, bar staffing, cleanup. Work beyond the scope of the members' volunteer efforts is contracted out by the board on the members’ behalf.
