Terry joined EYC with a Day membership around 2011 after being a member of the Sunshine Bay Yacht Club for many years. This allowed Terry & Leonie who had a West Wight Potter 19 to use EYC's docks and facilities on a "day basis". During this phase of his membership Terry still contributed a lot of volunteer time on a variety of activities.
In 2013 Terry sold his Potter and became a partner with Rob Martin in Fugitive, a San Juan 24, and bought a "full" family membership.
Terry was a member of the Board of Directors for several years. During his tenure as Membership Director, Terry sorted out a "rats nest" of past records, establishing a new and updated data base, and member share tracking system with the issuance of new share numbers.
Terry also participated significantly in several club strategic plan initiatives. He pushed hard for EYC to establish a vision and definitive action plan update, upgrade and in some cases remake the club's infrastructure. Especially Hurry Inn!
He was always front and centre at docks in and docks out. Initially in the water but as his arthritis got worse, Terry became the key person on shore to ensure the dock sections were stacked and unstacked to guarantee correct placement. He assumed this role from Bill Hunka.
Terry was always there to flip burgers with flare and humour on Seba Days and at club BBQs.
Terry and Rob won a number of races on Fugitive over the years, including Splice the Mainbrace twice. He performed bowman duty on spinnaker sets and was a sail trimmer extraordinaire!
Terry passed June 3, 2024, aged 76. His caustic wit and keen observations are sorely missed!
