Dear Stakeholder;
Enclosed are the plan drawings and application (for docks & moorings) put forward by the Edmonton Yacht Club (EYC) to the Summer Village of Seba Beach (SVSB), Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (ASRD) and Transport Canada – Navigable Waters (TC – Nav Waters) for approval.
We are inviting your response and comments to our plans at a public meeting in Seba Beach on Saturday, 6 March 2010 in the Pavilion from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. If unable to attend, you may send in your comments in the attached self addressed envelope or by completing the survey at our website at www.edmontonyachtclub.ca.
Club History: The Edmonton Yacht Club has been in its current location and has been an integral part of the community since 1942. EYC promotes the environmentally friendly use of the lake in a safe manner though our learn to sail programs, regattas and community events. Changes to EYC’s docks and mooring plans and recent policy changes at SVSB and TC – Nav Waters in the last few years has triggered EYC’s new application.
The Results: After talking to the SVSB councilors, our immediate lake lot neighbours, ASRD and TC-Nav Waters, the enclosed plans were developed. Our proposal reduces the area in which boats may be moored, allows for the floating docks as they currently exist, and provides for a Public Navigational Channel between the floating docks and the mooring field. The docks, mooring field and boats will all comply with all Transport Canada regulations.
The Consequences: In the absence of a breakwater or formal marina, experience had shown storing particular cruisers on the docks to be unsafe during heavy wind conditions, especially from the southeast. As a result, the proposed configuration of docks and moorings is required for safety reasons.
Your input to our plans is requested. We plan to include all comments received by 10 March 2010 into our report to prepare for the upcoming season.
Sincerely;
Dan Smith
